India strongly condemned Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, accusing the country of committing systematic human rights violations and attempting to mislead the international community.
During the Open Debate on Women, Peace, and Security, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, said Pakistan “bombs its own people” and uses misdirection and hyperbole to distract global attention from its atrocities.
Harish’s Remarks on Pakistan’s Human Rights Record
Ambassador Harish stated:
“Every year, we are forced to listen to Pakistan’s delusional accusations against India, particularly regarding Jammu and Kashmir, Indian territory they covet. Our record on Women, Peace, and Security is unblemished.”
He emphasized that Pakistan has a history of systematic violence, referencing Operation Searchlight in 1971, during which the Pakistani army carried out mass atrocities including the rape of 400,000 women.
“The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda,” he added.
India’s Position on Jammu and Kashmir
India has consistently stated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral part of India. Harish’s remarks came in response to Pakistani claims alleging decades of sexual violence against Kashmiri women, which India dismissed as fabricated propaganda.
India Highlights Pakistan’s Human Rights Issues
India also criticized Pakistan for its poor human rights record, pointing to:
-
State-sponsored persecution
-
Systemic discrimination against religious and ethnic minorities
KS Mohammed Hussain, Counsellor at India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, said:
“It is ironic that Pakistan, with one of the world’s worst human rights records, lectures others. Their fabricated allegations against India expose their hypocrisy.”
India reaffirmed that the country’s commitment to human rights and protection of women peacekeepers is strong and internationally recognized.
