Illegal Betting Operation Uncovered During India-Australia Champions Trophy Semi-Final

Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has uncovered a major cricket betting racket in Dwarka, leading to the arrest of two bookies. The accused, Parveen Kochhar (55) and Sanjeev Kumar (55), were caught placing illegal bets on the India-Australia Champions Trophy semi-final from a rented flat.

Police Raid Exposes Betting Network

Acting on specific intelligence, a Crime Branch team raided a premises in Dwarka’s Sector 23 on March 4. The accused were caught live betting using multiple mobile phones and laptops.

How the Betting Racket Functioned

According to DCP (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam, the accused had been running the illegal betting operation for over two years using both online and offline methods.

  • Master ID Purchase: Kochhar bought a master ID from an online betting website and generated sub-IDs to involve more people.
  • Large-Scale Transactions: The network handled ₹1.5 lakh in daily bets, generating profits of ₹30,000-₹40,000 per match.
  • High-Tech Setup: The accused used electronic devices and online platforms to manage bets efficiently.

Seized Items & Legal Action

During the raid, police confiscated 25 mobile phones, two laptops, an LED TV, notepads, and other betting-related equipment. A case has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing to identify other members of this illegal network.
