Bengaluru Leads India’s Aerospace Sector
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, addressing the 15th Aero India 2025, underlined Bengaluru’s pivotal role in India’s aerospace and defence landscape. He highlighted that Bengaluru contributes 60% of India’s aerospace manufacturing and defence research, making it the aerospace capital of India.
Karnataka: Hub of Innovation and Global Collaboration
Shivakumar stated that Karnataka has been at the forefront of aerospace innovation, attracting global partnerships and investments.
“Bengaluru is home to premier institutions like HAL, ISRO, Boeing India, and other world-class aerospace organizations. Over 1.15 lakh professionals work in this sector, establishing the city as a global leader in defence technology and innovation,” he noted.
He also highlighted that Bengaluru is the only city in the world with both commercial and defence airports operating simultaneously.
Aero India 2025: ‘The Runway to a Billion Opportunities’
The theme for this year’s Aero India, ‘The Runway to a Billion Opportunities,’ reflects India’s aspirations to become a global aerospace powerhouse. The event underscores the importance of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision.

- The Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jet performing breathtaking manoeuvres.
- Unveiling of Project Kusha, a long-range surface-to-air missile system with a range of 400 km, developed by DRDO in collaboration with Bharat Dynamics Limited and Solar Industries.
- A spectacular display by the Indian Air Force’s Tejas Mark 1A aircraft.
- The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team captivated the audience with their BAE Hawk Mk 132 aircraft, painting the sky with the Indian flag.

Shivakumar emphasized that Bengaluru is among the top three global aerospace cities, attracting foreign investments and fostering international collaborations.
