Arunachal Police Urges UTA Members to Return, Ensures Support and No Legal Action

The Arunachal Pradesh Police has issued an appeal to members of the newly-formed armed group, United Tani Army (UTA), urging them to return to mainstream society. The police assured that no legal action would be taken if individuals voluntarily leave the group.

“We encourage you to return to your families and communities. No legal repercussions will follow if you step forward voluntarily,” the police stated, offering support for their reintegration into society.

Key Recruiter Arrested
In a significant development, the police arrested Tana Hasi, the group’s key recruiter, who was reportedly in contact with senior UTA leaders and Naga insurgent groups. Hasi played a pivotal role in recruiting vulnerable youth and arranging their transportation to camps affiliated with banned organizations.

Social Media Exploited for Recruitment
Authorities revealed that social media platforms and local networks were used to lure youth into joining UTA. The group’s activities reportedly aim to destabilize peace and exploit the potential of youth for violent purposes.

Parents and Community Advised to Stay Alert
Police have advised parents to remain vigilant and guide children away from harmful influences. “Preventing the spread of these dangerous ideologies requires a united effort,” the statement read.

UTA’s Activities and Opposition
UTA recently released statements opposing mega dam projects, issuing ST certificates to non-native tribals, and seeking the relocation of Chakma-Hajong refugees. Videos of their training camps were also circulated online.

Police Commitment to Peace
The police reiterated their commitment to dismantling recruitment networks and safeguarding the youth of Arunachal Pradesh. Public cooperation is essential to combat these harmful ideologies and maintain peace in the state.
