Lokah Chapter 1: Priyanka Chopra Hails India’s First Female Superhero Film

Lokah Chapter 1, originally released in Malayalam, is now available in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. The film has become a box office sensation, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in just eight days.

Priyanka Chopra Praises Lokah on Instagram

The Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra recently took to Instagram Stories to celebrate Lokah, calling it “India’s first female superhero film.” Sharing a poster, she wrote:

“India’s first female superhero is here. Congratulations Dulquer Salmaan and the entire Lokah team. Already winning hearts in Malayalam, now out in Hindi too. P.S. added it to my watchlist!”

Her shoutout immediately caught the attention of producer and actor Dulquer Salmaan, who responded enthusiastically:

“OMG! Thank you! This support means the world to our entire Lokah team!”

Earlier, actress Alia Bhatt also praised the film, highlighting its fresh blend of mythic folklore and mystery, and expressing support for the movie’s unique storytelling.

Box Office Success and Expanded Release

Originally, Lokah was released on August 28, 2025, with only 647 shows across India. Due to positive word-of-mouth, the film’s screenings increased to:

  • Malayalam: 1,382 shows

  • Telugu: Over 597 shows

  • Hindi: 92 shows

Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of filmmaker Priyadarshan, leads the cast, alongside Sandy, Arun Kurian, and Naslen. The film’s growing popularity has made it the third-highest-earning Malayalam movie of 2025, after Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan and Mohanlal’s Thudaram.

Controversies and Resolution

The film faced criticism from some viewers over a dialogue perceived as demeaning to women, particularly in Karnataka. Additionally, certain audiences objected to how Hindus were portrayed. Following complaints, Wayfarer Film, Dulquer Salmaan’s production house, issued an apology and removed the dialogue.

Lokah Chapter 1: A Milestone in Indian Cinema

Lokah has made waves not only for its female superhero storyline but also for its cultural impact. With praise from Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and widespread audience love, the film demonstrates how regional cinema can achieve nationwide success and redefine the superhero genre in India.
