Four BJP MLAs will take the oath of office as ministers in the Assam cabinet today. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati at noon.
The newly inducted ministers are:
- Prasanta Phookan (MLA from Dibrugarh),
- Kaushik Rai (MLA from Lakhipur),
- Krishnendu Paul (MLA from Patharkandi), and
- Rupesh Gowala (MLA from Doomdooma).
The expansion follows the resignation of Sanjoy Kishan from the Assam Council of Ministers just before the announcement of these four new appointments. Notably, Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul represent the Barak Valley, while Prasanta Phookan and Rupesh Gowala hail from Upper Assam.
In an earlier statement, Krishnendu Paul expressed his gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He emphasized that he would work under CM Sarma’s leadership, who he commended for fostering inclusive development across all regions and communities of Assam.
On December 6, CM Sarma had announced the cabinet expansion, confirming that the four BJP MLAs would be sworn in on December 7. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he extended his best wishes to the new ministers, stating, “Happy to share that the following colleagues will be sworn in as ministers in our cabinet on December 7 at 12 PM: Prasanta Phookan, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, and Rupesh Goala. My best wishes to each of them!”
